By Craig Lyall, Head – Fund Structuring and Solutions
I am delighted to share an important milestone for Amicorp in South Africa.
After extensive preparation, planning, and collaboration across multiple teams, Amicorp has successfully secured its Category 1 Financial Services Provider (FSP) license from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) in South Africa.
This achievement represents a significant step forward in strengthening Amicorp’s financial services capabilities on the African continent and further demonstrates our commitment to operating within the highest standards of regulatory compliance and governance.
Congratulations to the South African Team
This license is the result of a tremendous amount of work from colleagues across our South African office and the wider Amicorp network.
Obtaining regulatory approval is never a simple administrative exercise. It requires demonstrating robust governance structures, operational readiness, compliance frameworks, risk management controls, and the ability to deliver regulated financial services responsibly and transparently.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this achievement. Your dedication, professionalism, and attention to detail have helped position South Africa as an increasingly important part of Amicorp’s global growth strategy.
What Is a Category 1 FSP License?
A Category 1 Financial Services Provider license is issued by South Africa’s Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) Act.
The license authorizes AFS Global Services to provide regulated financial advisory and intermediary services within a clearly defined regulatory framework. It enables the company to operate as a recognized and supervised financial services provider in South Africa while adhering to strict regulatory, compliance, and client-protection requirements.
What Does the License Allow Us to Do?
The license directly authorizes financial advisory and intermediary services in relation to financial products and additionally supports a range of activities connected to Amicorp’s global service offering where a recognized local license is required by applicable foreign regulators. These include:
- Fund administration services – provided on an outsourced basis to Amicorp’s globally licensed fund administration entities, where applicable foreign regulators require the outsourced service provider to hold a recognized local financial services license as a condition of the outsourcing arrangement.
- Investment advisory and non-discretionary portfolio review services – including the preparation of investment research, company valuation reports, and financial analysis where such services constitute financial advice directed at clients in relation to financial products.
- Registrar and transfer agent services – provided on an outsourced basis in support of Amicorp’s licensed transfer agency entities in other jurisdictions, where the relevant foreign regulator requires the outsourced service provider to hold a recognized local financial services license as a condition of the outsourcing arrangement.
The license establishes South Africa as a regulated operational hub within the Amicorp network – combining directly authorized financial services activities with connected functions that benefit from, and in many cases require, the oversight and credibility of a locally licensed entity.
Why Is This Important for Amicorp?
This license creates several strategic advantages for the Group.
Strengthens Our African Presence
South Africa remains one of the most sophisticated and regulated financial markets in Africa. Having a licensed entity strengthens our credibility and enhances our ability to support clients operating across the region.
Expands Service Capability
The license allows us to deliver regulated support services relating to fund administration, capital markets, regulatory reporting, governance, and investment advisory activities. This broadens the range of solutions we can provide for clients and internal stakeholders.
Supports Global Growth
AFS Global Services has been specifically designed to support Amicorp’s international operations. Through its connection to our global network, the South African business can contribute to cross-border fund administration, capital markets support, and corporate structuring initiatives.
Reinforces Regulatory Excellence
Amicorp currently operates under more than 50 regulatory licenses worldwide. This latest approval further strengthens our global regulatory footprint and demonstrates our continued commitment to compliance, governance, transparency, and client protection.
Looking Ahead
The approval of the Category 1 FSP license is a strong platform for future growth. It provides the foundation for expanding our capabilities, supporting new client opportunities, strengthening our capital markets offering, and creating greater value for clients across South Africa, Africa, and the wider Amicorp network.
As we continue to grow, this achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished when expertise, collaboration, and commitment come together behind a shared vision.
Congratulations once again to everyone involved in reaching this important milestone.
